Overview
Camiguin is a tropical island known by many locals as the “Island Born of Fire.” The island exists from volcanic eruptions and home to seven volcanoes that continue to shape and reshape its unique landscape. It is the smallest island in Mindanao and the second smallest province in the Philippines. This island features numerous waterfalls, hot and cold springs, and scenic beaches.
Sunken Cemetery, Camiguin’s most iconic landmark, is a graveyard under the sea marked by a massive white cross.
The famous White Island is a magnificent white sandbar with fine powdery sand. It offers an excellent spot for swimming and picnics.
Binangawan Falls, the shortest of the falls in Camiguin with a height of 15 meters or so. Several hot and cold springs such as the Hibok-Hibok Hot Spring and Sto. Niño Cold Spring.
Visiting the island is best the whole year round as it has excellent year-round weather, especially during their Lanzones Festival, usually around the third week of October. Traveling to Camuiguin isn’t as simple as many Filipino islands. It does have its own airport in Mambajao, however Cebu Pacific is the only commercial airline that has regular flights to the province from Cebu City. For tourists coming from Manila, make your way to Cagayan de Oro, and the alternative gateway is to Butuan City.
